The Computing and Mathematics Research Institute spans a range of areas that are based on research methods from computer science and mathematics. A key aim of the Institute is to assist researchers in exploiting opportunities for engagement with academia, industry, and the community. Supporting the generation of external funding to support research activities and multi-disciplinary, collaborative projects are also key priorities.

A wide variety of research areas fall under the Institute. A common feature across the institute is a focus on applied research across a wide spectrum of application areas, with a strong engagement of users from business, government, community organisations and international collaborations.
